STUDENT OF THE WEEK Meghan Paradise
Q: What grade did you just complete?
A: I just completed 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q: What was your favorite subject? Why?
A: My favorite subject was AP biology because I really enjoy nature and the outdoors, and the things that I have learned apply to the study of life and living organisms.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: I was named the captain of the girls varsity soccer team this past fall at the high school, which was very exciting and rewarding.
Q: Were you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I was involved in student government, peer assisted learning support, Camelot for Kids, high school soccer and club soccer.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: I will be attending Pennsylvania State University to study kinesiology and minor in Spanish and psychology. I hope to eventually become a physical therapist.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: During the summer of my junior year in high school, I tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus playing soccer. It was incredibly upsetting for me, because playing sports has been a part of my life since I was very young. I had surgery and went through physical therapy for 10 months, a time during which I struggled both mentally and physically. The injury was a tough obstacle to overcome, but I am now back to playing soccer and I feel much stronger as a person and as a soccer player than ever before.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I want to be remembered for the way I treat others, as I always try to be as selfless as possible.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: My parents are Robert and Robin, and my siblings are Ryan, Liam and Emma. I also have two Australian shepherds named Maggie and Baxter.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: I look up to my parents. Although we don't always see eye to eye on everything, they have done everything possible to make me who I am today and have led by great example.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: Don't give up! If you have your eyes set on a particular goal, work your butt off for it. One of my goals was getting back to playing soccer after my injury, which I achieved. Also, don't underestimate yourself and your abilities. Whether you say you can or you can't, you're right.
