Dinosaurs, water games dominate Camp Cementon

Week three of Camp Whitehall was full of fun and sunshine!

The theme for Camp Cementon was dinosaurs though the campers got to see (and pretend to be) all sorts of animals this week.

The campers came Monday morning all rested up from the weekend and ready to play. From campers against the counselors in dodge ball to freeze dance and every game in between, everyone had a blast playing all week long.

Since it was so hot outside, a few of the games involved cooling down such as a race where the kids had to squeeze out a sponge into a pan and fill it with water. This turned into a new game the campers made up called "attack camp counselor Nicole with the wet sponges."

The rain held out for us last week, so we were able to go to the pool every day to cool off and have some fun in the water. The diving board tricks get better and better each week!

On Wednesday, Camp Cementon traveled to the North Museum of Natural History. Campers learned about all sorts of animals and participated in a bunch of hands-on activities and games. They saw fossils, went on a scavenger hunt, checked out real diamonds, and saw many animals including turtles, hermit crabs and a tarantula.

Most of the campers were even braver than the counselors and touched a snake. The really, really brave campers enjoyed some bacon flavored crickets from the gift shop for a little snack.

We did two crafts during the week. One involved allowing the campers to keep the craft and another for them to give away.

On Tuesday, the campers made dinosaur feet out of foam to put over their shoes. Once they were complete, we had a relay race where they got to show off their craft and run around like a bunch of little dinosaurs.

On Thursday, campers decorated cards to give to children at the Lehigh Valley Hospital to make them smile. The campers were more than happy to brighten another kid's day.

On Friday, Hannah P. and Aaron S. were announced as the campers of the week. Everyone is looking forward to more fun-filled days to come at Camp Cementon!
