Constitution ousts boys team
During SportsFest's recent A-town Throwdown boys basketball tournament, not many teams could say they advanced out of pool play with a perfect mark.
Salisbury, however, was able to do just that.
The Falcons went 3-0 in their pool, capturing victories over Governor Mifflin (71-47), Burlington Township (43-17), and Easton (54-52) before coming up just short against eventual tourney runner-up Constitution early Sunday morning.
"This was a great tournament for us," said head coach Jason Weaver. "To go 3-0 in pool play, we never did that since I've been coaching here. And to get to Sunday and how we battled, it was very encouraging."
Missing a number of key contributors against Constitution, the Falcons managed to keep it close and had chances to tie the game with under a minute to play. Constitution held off a late Falcon run and managed to hit a few free throws in the final seconds to ice the game.
"Considering the guys we had playing today and missing some of our key guys, I thought we played really well," said Weaver. "Austin [Uhl] I think had a big game against them. Constitution had two big guys, but he really went to the basket well."
Led by a number of key returning seniors, the Falcons became the only team out of four Colonial League squads to make it to Sunday. Uhl led the Falcons through pool play, posting double figures in each contest. He had 15 against Governor Mifflin, 14 against Burlington Township, and 17 against Easton.
"I think we were the only small public school that was left in it when you look at the teams left," said Weaver. "They're either charter schools from Philly or big schools from around here.
"The thing that I was most happy to see was when we had all of our guys there, we played really well together. We shared the ball. We worked the ball. We played good defense. It's a good sign for the season to come as long we keep playing well together."
Thunderstorms on Friday night interrupted the Falcons' game against Governor Mifflin in the second half, Salisbury finished the final 14 minutes on Saturday night with a win after victories over Burlington Township and Easton hours earlier.
Salisbury's girls team struggled to at the start of SportsFest's American Arch Girls Basketball Tournament against Dunmore, the Lady Falcons put that loss behind them and strung together a solid showing on Saturday.
Their 43-22 loss to Dunmore sent the Falcons into the loser's bracket for a noon game against Quakertown on Saturday. Without leader Meagan Eripret, the Falcons put together a 16-point win against Quakertown, which was followed up by a 38-37 victory in overtime against Allen.
The offense, which struggled to get on track in the Dunmore game, once again had a tough time against Bangor. The Falcons fell to the Slaters 19-10, ending their tourney run.
