Camp Jefferson column
The second week of Camp Whitehall at Jefferson Park began with a gloomy Monday.
The campers spent the morning indoors playing dodge ball, survivor, musical chairs and having multiple four square tournaments. Many of the campers also spent time making string bracelets and key chains.
Around lunchtime, the skies began to clear and we went to the pool. Hoping it wouldn't storm again, we had about an hour of clear skies until it started to rain. The campers had fun dancing in the rain as they waited for it to pass so they could return to swimming.
On Tuesday, Camp Jefferson held a dodge ball tournament before heading to Spring Hill Golf Course to play a round of mini golf. The campers were split into three teams with the counselors on another team for the tournament. The kids had fun trying to beat the counselors.
When we eventually arrived at Spring Hill Golf Course, the campers separated into groups of five and began golfing. After finishing a round of mini golf, the campers received their choice of pizza or a hot dog, popcorn, a drink and a soft serve ice cream. A few of the campers also ventured into the batting cages and tried to hit home runs.
Once again, the weather Wednesday morning was unpredictable, so we decided to watch a movie. The campers unanimously chose "The Avengers" and were excited to watch it. After the movie, the campers could choose free time in the park or work on the crafts.
The craft this week was decorating picture frames. The campers were given wooden frames, paint, markers, stickers, gems and feathers. They came up with many creative frames to take home. We spent the rest of the afternoon having fun at the pool.
Since the Fourth of July fell on Thursday, camp was not held that day, but the theme Friday was America. The campers and counselors dressed in red, white and blue and spent the morning playing capture the flag along with other fun games. We then held a joke telling contest. The campers told many creative jokes and the counselors quickly learned there are many comedians in the group.
We ended Friday by going to the pool and announcing our Campers of the Week who were Julia and Johan. Congratulations campers!
