LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Camp Cementon column

Stars, stripes and American pride filled Camp Cementon during week two.

We returned to the Cementon playground this week for even more fun. Sticking with the holiday spirit, campers created sparkless sparklers using sticks, tape and shiny ribbons.

The children also took part in a science experiment involving cranberry juice, blue Gatorade and diet Sprite. They learned how the different densities of each liquid allow the liquids to lie on top of one another, rather than mixing together. The three drinks created a red, white and blue beverage.

The campers also played many of their favorite traditional games, such as silent ball and jump the river. On Friday, they wore their red, white and blue for dress-up day.

The field trip for this week included a visit to Spring Hill Golf where the campers tested their skills on the 18-hole course. While it rained lightly, the weather did not dampen the competitive spirit of the campers. All the campers did an excellent job of successfully completing the course.

While the campers battled the threat of thunderstorms almost all week long, the light rain showers did not keep Camp Cementon kids indoors or away from the pool during the afternoons. The weather cleared up for the second half of the week, but the campers had the day off on Thursday in observance of Independence Day.

Friday was a hot day for the campers, so they played a water game called splash out in order to cool off.

Also on Friday, the campers of the week were announced. These campers attended each day of camp, followed all of the rules, had a good attitude and tried to participate in all of the activities. The campers of the week were Brodie M. and Erin S.

Camp Cementon had a great week and the counselors are excited for the upcoming weeks as well!
