Board approves positions

The Whitehall-Coplay School Board approved the appointment of temporary professionals at its July 8 meeting.

The board appointed Andrew Fehnel as a high school social studies teacher; David Stauffer as a high school business, computer and information technology teacher ;and Sandra Reilly as middle school librarian. Also approved were Ellen Luybli, Simone Granison and Hollie Matejcek, all Zephyr Elementary School fourth-grade teachers, and Abigail Benner, Gockley Elementary School kindergarten teacher.

The vote was 8-0 with school board member Wayne Grim absent.

"We've had so many applications," said Superintendent John Corby. "I'm sure this is the cream of the crop and we're happy to welcome you aboard."

In other business, the board approved Dr. S. John Salivonchik and Dr. John Meci to serve as school dentists for the 2013-14 school year.

Also during the meeting, Allentown resident Janice Bowman addressed the board. Bowman is a member of the group "We the People," which, according to Bowman, is a subgroup of "Pennsylvania Against Common Core."

She told the oard about a meeting in Harrisburg that was to have taken place July 10. "We wanted to make you aware," she said.

The board thanked her for her participation.
