Reilly leads Salisbury over LVF

When any season gets underway, new players get the opportunity to shine and contribute.

And while the Salisbury boys' soccer season doesn't get underway for a few more months, the same can be said for the Falcons when the fall season approaches. Sean Adams and Kevin Barahona, both Colonial League First-Team All-Stars last season, have graduated, leaving a void in the offensive attack.

One of a number of Falcons looking to help with that production loss is senior-to-be Joseph Reilly, a Colonial League Second-Team selection last season.

Reilly, who has been a key part to the Falcons' perfect 7-0 mark in the Lehigh Valley Summer Soccer League, netted three more goals in their 5-2 defeat of Lehigh Valley Force, composed of players from the Bethlehem and Parkland areas.

"It feels good that we're coming out strong and playing as a team too," said Reilly. "Because if we're doing it right here, than we're most likely going to do it right in the season."

Connor Wagner's name will also be a key one for the Falcons in terms of scoring options. Wagner, who was on vacation during the victory over Lehigh Valley Force, joins Reilly as two main ingredients for the Falcons' offense.

"The two of those guys are the returning scoring pieces that we have," said head coach Mark Allinson. "We're going to look a little bit different in the midfield. We have a group of juniors that are working hard and should fit in the mix."

Reilly, who now has 16 goals in seven summer league games, scored the first two for the Falcons after falling behind 1-0 to Lehigh Valley Force.

Lehigh Valley Force would go on to tie it at 2-2, but three consecutive Salisbury goals after intermission sealed the victory for the undefeated Falcons.

After Zach Adams opened up the half with a goal in the opening moments, Reilly dribbled around a few defenders and the goalkeeper, and tallied his third in the right side of the net. Adams then added another later in the half after Lehigh Valley Force goalkeeper attempted to come out and make a save.

He's been working on the fundamentals and his speed in the offseason, and he's ready to take on that new role of helping lead the Falcons come the fall.

"Just make sure that everything is good and there are no mistakes," said Reilly. "And my speed too. I want to be able to be faster than any defender this year."

Jason Carne was in goal for the Falcons last season, and with his departure comes another void Salisbury must fill. Jack Bonge and William Walsh have both seen time this summer in goal.

The Falcons will get into the tougher part of their schedule as the season progresses, starting with a matchup against Whitehall on Monday evening. Results from that game were not available at time of press. The Falcons will next play Saucon Valley on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Prior to Monday's games, both Whitehall and Saucon Valley each had one loss.

"We're in a division that we have all of the stronger teams at the end of the schedule," said Allinson. "It's a stretch that's certainly going to help us."
