Arraignment
A former Allentown man remained in state custody on $200,000 bail in connection with an armed robbery of a bank in Emmaus in 2010.
Edward Anthony Maye, 34, currently in the State Correctional Institution at Smithfield in Huntingdon County, was arraigned before District Judge Donna R. Butler at District Court 31-2-03, 106 Main St., July 1. Maye was unable to post bail and was returned to the state facility.
Maye faced charges of robbery, aggravated assault, theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy in a bank robbery which took place December 3, 2010, at Lafayette Ambassador Bank, 402 State Ave., Emmaus. According to records at the district court office, Maye, along with an unknown actor, allegedly entered the bank at approximately 5:35 p.m., brandished a handgun, took several thousand dollars in cash from three teller drawers, placed the cash in a bag and fled the bank. Maye allegedly attempted or did hurt three bank tellers and two people who were in the bank at the time of the robbery. Maye was charged with three counts of robbery, five counts of aggravated assault, and one count each of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and conspiracy. A complaint for an arrest warrant detailing charges was filed by police.
An earlier report noted Maye was in the state facility in Huntingdon County after pleading guilty to three counts of robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and conspiracy in the robbery of KNBT bank, 235 Main St, Emmaus. The robbery at KNBT bank also took place in December 2010.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for July 9.
