Falcons beat Lower Mac
After a 14-0 defeat to North Parkland Sunday afternoon, the Salisbury legion baseball team took the field just hours later looking to put that loss behind them.
And the result was just as night and day as the game time weather of the two outings.
While dark skies and periods of a light rain occurred during the North Parkland defeat, sunny skies highlighted the Falcons' 10-2 victory over Lower Mac.
Behind a complete game by Tyler Cooperman that included eight strikeouts, and a steady dose of offense from the early going, Salisbury improved to 10-5 on the season.
"We didn't really let it carry over into the second game," said Cooperman. "We came out with a clear mind, and played a good game."
"Parkland has good pitchers, and we saw another one in Kosciolek," said Charles Rogers. "He overpowered us at times, [and] other times we had good at bats. We hit some hard, and others didn't fall.
"The first game we were hitting, but we had nothing to show for it today. The second game, we swung just as well, but we had more hits than the first game. That's just the way baseball is."
The Falcons have lost both games against North Parkland this season, one team ahead of them in the standings, but they haven't had their whole lineup available for either game.
Rogers, who had two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk against Lower Mac, got the scoring barrage started in the second inning. He connected on an RBI-double that scored Javier Rivera-Colon. Rogers later scored in the inning on a Zach Seitz fielder's choice that made it 2-0.
"There was a runner on second. I just wanted to move him over," said Rogers. "I'm not making the best contact right now, but I tried to stay on top of the ball, hit something on the ground and move him over."
The Falcons got four more runs in the third and three in the fourth inning to push their lead to 9-1 after four.
Six different Falcons walked in the third, an inning in which three pitchers took the mound for Lower Mac. Rogers' walk brought in Brad Vangeli, and he later scored on a Lower Mac throwing error to make it 5-0. Alex Clark, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI, then connected on a single to center field that scored Justin Aungst.
Cooperman scored his second run of the game in the seventh and ended the game how he started it, tallying one of his eight strikeouts. Over seven innings, Cooperman allowed just two runs (one unearned) on five hits.
"I felt good," said Cooperman. "I was well rested."
Cooperman, Vangeli and Aungst each scored two runs for the Falcons.
Results from Monday's game against West Allentown weren't available at time of press. The Falcons face West Allentown again on Tuesday at J. Birney Crum Stadium, followed by a regular season finale against Emmaus on Wednesday.
