"There's a Monster in My Closet," a musical two-act play by the Siegfried Showstoppers, students at the Colonel John Siegfried Elementary School, Northampton, played to raving audiences for three nights recently.
The appreciative audiences gave the performers a standing ovation with some commenting the young thespians were good enough to receive a "Freddy" award if one were given.
The play is an adaptation from a book by Angela Stewart and music and arrangements by Bill Francoeur. Janice Gober, a Siegfried teacher, returned as the play's director. Vocal direction was provided by music teacher Michael Fister and choreography by Morgan Gober.
The play had something for everyone in cluding numerous fairies, spirits and monsters, along with Dream World inhabitants.
Mmusical numbers included "If You Just Believe," "What Was That Thing?" "Dreamland," "I Got My Groove On," "Downright Incompetence," "They're Monsters," "Boys/Girls Are Such a Pain," "Dream Queen," "Dreamland Reprise," and "All Through the Years."
Several of the lead characters were portrayed in the play by different students over the course of the three performances, showing the talent and varied dimensions of the actors.
