Four Salisbury High School graduates brought together in a media class during their recent spring semester, spent a full day shooting video of Western Salisbury Fire Department firefighters and their firefighting vehicles, recorded extended commentary by a number of the volunteers, then spent countless hours distilling the footage into a four-minute firefighter volunteer recruitment video for the fire department.
The video received its debut June 10 at the fire department's Swain Station, along Green Acres Drive at Ott Street, where the students were treated to a "thank you" pizza party.
The students: Madison Ritz, Megan Greenberg, and Casey Creveling along with WSFD Firefighter Jonathan Al-Khal, who spearheaded the project, were enthusiastic about their experience.
"We learned a lot about what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter, and we got to ride in a fire engine as part of the project," Ritz said.
The group spent about three months distilling and editing the footage into the final product which encourages community-minded residents to explore the possibility of joining the volunteer firefighting team.
The video has been posted on You Tube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq0es19rpZQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player. Check it out. You'll learn more about our community volunteers and just maybe find that you would like to be part of the team.
