Be sure to come to Emmaus Community Park July 20 for the family fun activities scheduled during Community Day. The noon to 6 p.m. event will feature a dunk tank, food, games, sporting events, local clubs, music and other entertainment. The evening will end with an old timer's baseball game as well as "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" softball game. Local organizations will be selling food and drinks. Concerned East Penn Taxpayers Association's picnic will coincide with the Community Day celebration. The members invite past presenters and the public to join them in the North Pavilion to talk and share a good time. The group usually meets the third Tuesday of each month. The Emmaus Main Street Partners will host a clam bake 4 to 9 p.m. July 20 at the Groller and Women's Club pavilions in Emmaus Community Park. The last seating is 7:30 p.m. The ticket price includes clams, barbecue, baked chicken, pulled pork, hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, crab cake sandwiches, chicken fingers, clam chowder, corn on the cob and varieties of salad. BYOB but no glass containers are permitted. The group is also offering tickets for a seafood raffle, lobster tail raffle and gift certificates to Chestnut Street Seafood. The Emmaus Main Street Partners will sponsor a sidewalk sale at various shops throughout Emmaus 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 13. The event features music on the Triangle. The sidewalk sales continue on the second Saturday of every month. For information, call 610-965-2174.
The summer concert series in the Arts Pavilion at Community Park are July 4: The Pioneer Band of Allentown; July 7: The Acoustic Project; July 14: The Midnight Special Band; July 21: Groovitude, and July 28: Alightment. Concerts begin at 6 p.m. Reminder: First Friday Family Fun Nights are held 6 to 9 p.m. There will be a teen talent night 6 p.m. July 5. Dip N Dance with DJ Dutch will be held 4 to 7 p.m. July 18 at the pool.
Emmaus Garden Club invites the public to the July 2 meeting at Faith Presbyterian Church, North Second and Cherokee streets. Barbara Malt, vice president of the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society, will speak on Gardening for Migration. Doors open 12:30 p.m. and the program follows. The public is invited. The Emmaus Farmers Market is held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday at the National Penn Bank parking lot, 235 Main St. In conjunction with the Emmaus Public Library, the market will celebrate the greatness of the heirloom tomato with tastings, games and a book sale July 28. The Emmaus Arts Commission will hold a Chalk Walk, 9 a.m. to noon July 14 at Triangle Park (the event may spread to adjoining sidewalks). Rain date is July 20. This art festival is a new fundraising event for the group. Registered artists will be assigned a block to create and exhibit their work. Age division prizes will be awarded. Emmaus Borough Council will meet 7 p.m. July 15 in council chambers, 28 S. Fourth St. Borough offices and the compost center will be closed July 4 for the Independence Day holiday.

I hope all Emmaus adults, teens and young children are continuing to read during July and recording the books read during the Emmaus Library's "Dig into Reading," summer reading program. Registration forms are available in the library. The library, 11 E. Main St., is offering a special program "Digging up Your Ancestors" by local genealogist Fay Cox, 7 p.m. July 15. Cox will share some of her experiences in researching her family history and provide helpful hints for the amateur genealogist. Family Fun Nights will be held 7 p.m. July 11, 18 and 25. The library will be closed July 4, 5 and 6 for the Independence Day holiday. The adult summer reading program with prize drawings will be held 7 p.m. July 30.
