LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK Greg Ritchie

Q: What grade are you in?

A: I just completed 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q: What was your favorite subject? Why?

A: My favorite subject was anything involving music, as it is a passion of mine. I love to explore and learn about the theory behind what I am playing.

Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A: I have received numerous awards for swimming throughout the past four years. These include district medals, the player's player award, state medals, NISCA Top 16 Qualifier at States and several All-Americans.

Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A: I have been swimming for the past 14 years but have since retired to pursue coaching instead. I am also heavily involved in music, be it playing in the school's jazz band and numerous ensembles outside of school. I enjoy recording, producing and performing music as well, and work with various bands in my home studio.

Q: What is your next goal after high school?

A: I wish to pursue my music career of performing and producing at Berklee College of Music next year.

Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A: My biggest challenge thus far has been my high school swimming career; however it has also been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. The amount of work and dedication that goes into the sport is enormous, but if the effort is there then the payoff is quite substantial as well.

Q: What do you want to be remembered for?

A: I want to be remembered for the music I make. My goal is to reach as many people as possible with my music and I fully intend to keep pursuing this goal until I do.

Q: Who is in your family?

A: I live with my mother and father, Jeanne and Dan Ritchie, and our two dogs. I have a half brother and half sister that reside in Florida and South Korea respectively.

Q: Do you have someone you look up to?

A: I have many people that I look up to, both locally and on a more universal field. My parents have both instilled good values in me and have taught me how to survive in the world. There are many musicians that I seek for influence as well that play guitar in a similar style to myself.

Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?

A: My advice to my peers would be to cherish each and every moment, because life goes by so quickly. Do what you love and what will make you happiest; no one should be able to tell you otherwise.
