The Lower Milford Township Fire Company will hold a carnival 6 to 10:30 p.m. through June 15. All proceeds benefit the fire company. Special entertainment 7 p.m. each night with fireworks June 14. Flag Day observance, 6 p.m. at Emmaus Community Park, sponsored by the Emmaus Flag Day Association and the Emmaus Veterans Committee. Events include noted speakers, Advancing of the Colors, Pledge to the Flag, singing of the "Star Spangled Banner," reading of the winning poetry and essay contest entries and more. The 106-year old Allentown Flag Day Association will celebrate Flag Day 7 p.m. in Allentown's West Park with the long standing traditional patriotic band concert by the Allentown Band with soloist Evelyn Stewart. Col. Glenn T. Nissley, Commander of the 213th Regional Support Group at the Gen. Curtis Armory, 15th & Allen Streets, Allentown from 2009-13 will speak. Awards will be given to the top three winners of the annual Flag Day Essay Contest in the Allentown Middle Schools. The winners will also be on hand to read their essays during the concert. The event is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be accepted to support the association. In addition to the concert and essay contest, the group sponsors a noon flag raising at Allentown City Hall, presents a framed Old Glory to all new naturalized citizens in Lehigh County and this year will present a handheld flag to all the graduating seniors of Dieruff High School during their graduation ceremony at Stabler Arena. Stahl's Pottery Preservation Society, Inc. will hold its 26th annual Summer Pottery Festival featuring tours of the potting shed and kiln, 32 potters displaying and selling traditional and contemporary pottery, pottery demonstrations, hands-on potting opportunities, an exhibit of historic Stahl's pottery, baked goods and light refreshments. The festival will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine at the Pottery grounds along Corning Road in Zionsville. There is an admission charge; admission is free for children under 18. Concerned East Penn Taxpayers Association will hold a United Services Appreciation Day 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Fire Company #1, 6th and Broad streets, Emmaus. Scheduled speakers are Marine Sgt. Major John Neith, Air Force Erin Herbert and Marine Brian Smith. All retired and current military service personnel, fire, ambulance, police and elected officials are invited to attend and share their experiences with the public.
