Firefighters from Western Salisbury, Woodlawn and Fogelsville fire departments along with an EMS unit from Cetronia ambulance respond to a tractor trailer fire on Interstate 78 in the eastbound lane 2:30 p.m. May 28. The fire was about three-quarters of a mile west of the Hamilton Boulevard interchange in the eastbound lane. Initial reports from Lehigh County 911 radio indicated a tractor trailer was on the shoulder of the road with a brake fire on the trailer. Western Salisbury Fire Chief Josh Wells reported seeing heavy smoke from the Hamilton Boulevard onramp as he was proceeding west toward the fire. Shortly after that call, the ambulance crew from Cetronia reported the fire had spread to the trailer. When Wells arrived on the scene, the rear of the trailer was engulfed in flames. Fire crews used several hose lines to extinguish the fire, forcing state police to shut down all eastbound lanes until crews had the fire under control. All eastbound lanes were closed until the damaged trailer could be removed. The driver of the tractor was not injured and was able to disconnect the tractor from the trailer to prevent any damage to the tractor. Lehigh County radio reported the trailer was hauling juice drinks.
