STUDENT OF THE WEEK Kiley Schlosser
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: Humanities. It combines art, music, English, and history to create a perfectly blended curriculum.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: Yes, for 2012 most improved and varsity volleyball.
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I am involved in varsity player for girls volleyball; manager for mens volleyball; historian for French club and women's choir member.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: I was accepted into a 3 + 2 program with the University of Delaware and Thomas Jefferson, which is a five-year program, which results in a master's degree in occupational therapy. My goal is to get my bachelor's degree in health sciences from Delaware and then move onto Thomas Jefferson for my master's degree in occupational therapy.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: Choosing a college. Throughout the entire process of picking a college I held this constant fear of what if I choose wrong? When I first stepped onto Delaware's campus I knew I wanted to go there. However, the same nagging fear prohibited me from choosing it right away. With the help and guidance of my mother I realized this is where I definitely want to be this fall.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I want to be remembered as the girl who never gave up. My freshman year of volleyball I got cut from the team. The next two years I made the team, but didn't experience much playing time. Finally, my senior year I continued working hard and started the entire season.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: Debra and Richard, my parents; Dylan and Jeremy, my brothers; and Little Bit and Lacy, my two miniature horses.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: I definitely look up to my mother, Debra. She manages to own and operate her own business while coaching the mens volleyball team at the high school. She also runs two volleyball clubs and teaches Sunday school at my church. She's like my own superhero or Superwoman. She lives this extremely busy life and still leaves enough time for me.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: Get involved! I can honestly say some of the best times I have had at Emmaus High School were through my extracurricular activities. Girls volleyball became a family for me and I met some of my best friends through that team. Mens volleyball created a whole team of older brothers who I know will always be there for me, including my actual brother, Dylan while he was still in high school. Overall, to my younger peers, I would tell them to get involved before high school is over.
