LOWER MACUNGIE COLUMN

Lower Macungie Township is partnering with Pa. Career Link Lehigh Valley to host a job fair noon to 4 p.m. June 11 at the Lower Macungie Community Center. Companies to be represented will be posted on the Lower Macungie website at www.lowermac.com.

The fourth annual craft/vendor fair will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at the community center. Register at the community center or download the form at www.lowermac.com.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon June 4 and 18 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games. On June 18, the games are followed by special entertainment.

There will be a Lower Macungie Township Night at Coca Cola Park July 21. For more information, call the community center at 610-966-6924.

There will a Safe Sitter Program offered by Lehigh Valley Health Network for children ages 11 to 14 years 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 27 at the community center.

Macungie Ambulance Corps will provide instruction in Friends and Family Basic CPR 6 to 8 p.m. May 20 and Advanced (health care provider) CPR 6 to 10 p.m. May 28.

Yard waste site hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hours will change to 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 1 for Saturday hours. The site is closed on Tuesday and Thursday. Be prepared to show your photo I.D. as proof of residency.

Throughout the month of May, Lower Macungie Library will feature the abstract and figurative oil and acrylic paintings of Egidio Galgano.

The library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. June 5 to discuss "Sea Glass" by Anita Shreve. The book for July 10 is "Atonement" by Ian McEwan.

Summer Reading Club signups begin 9 a.m. June 1. The Summer Reading Club Kickoff will be held 6 p.m. June 24. The theme this year is "Dig into Reading@Your Library." DJ JIMBO will play music and there will be Rita's Ice sponsored by Ai Orthodontics.

Dave Tettemer of the Bonsai Society of Lehigh Valley will give a talk on the history of bonsai 6:30 p.m. June 4 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center.

The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library will meet 11 a.m. May 18 in the library.

The Friends will sponsor a bus trip Sept. 21 to the National Book Festival on the Mall in Washington, D.C. If interested, contact Joyce at 610-395-1475.

The Upper Milford Historical Society will present "Images of America: Upper Milford Township" 7 p.m. May 16 at the Macungie Institute in Macungie. Books will be available for signing.

Lower Macungie Pool Swim lesson signups will take place 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 15 Lower at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center.

Fall 2013 sports registration for Lower Macungie Youth Association is now open online. Sports offered include baseball, cheerleading, field hockey, football, lacrosse, soccer, softball and volleyball. The website is www.lmya.org or call 215-642-0695.

Curbside collection of yard waste will take place the week of May 20 through 24. Containers/ bundles should be placed separately at the curb on the regular collection day. Grass clippings are not included. For more information, see www.lowermac. org.

Registration for the Lower Macungie Township's Summer Playground Program will take place 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 29 at the Lower Macungie Township community center. The program is open to children who have completed kindergarten through 11 years and runs 9 a.m. to noon June 24 through Aug. 9. Programs are held at Quarry, Church Lane, East Texas, Hills at Lockridge and Wild Cherry Parks.

The Lower Macungie Pool will open for the season May 25 and be open noon to 8 p.m. for Memorial Day weekend. The pool will be open weekends only noon to 8 p.m. through June 9. The pool will be open daily noon to 8 p.m. June 10 through July 31. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. June 19 and 27 for swim meets. For more information, check the website www.lowermac. org.

The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society will present "Spring Planting at the Log House" 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 1 at the Log House at Wescosville Park. Events will include spring planting led by Ferne Druckenmiller in the expanded kitchen garden. There will also be 19th century children's games, demonstrations of woodcraft skills and homemade ice cream.

The Marine Band will perform 7 p.m. June 1 at Prater Park.

The American Cancer Society Bark for Life will be held June 8 at Bob Rodale Park. Bark for Life is a non-competitive walk for dogs and their owners to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
