Hornets fall in semifinal
Bethlehem Catholic and Parkland both took care of business Monday night in rivalry matches in the Lehigh Valley Conference semifinals at Whitehall.
The Hawks ousted Liberty in four games 25-20, 25-27, 25-21, 25-13, while Parkland also needed four games to break past a scrappy Emmaus squad en route to the finals during a 25-20, 27-25, 25-27, 25-18 result.
The Trojans won a pivotal game two on Monday night after letting an 11-5 lead slip into a 24-21 deficit until they pulled out a win.
"We didn't follow the game plan tonight," Emmaus head coach Deb Schlosser said. "We should have done our job at that point. All we had to do was sideout and we made a lot of dumb mistakes."
Trumbauer knew that match was vital towards keeping the momentum on his team's side.
"It was huge because we're fighting off game points every time and the kids just battled," he said. "It was a big momentum swing for us."
Now both teams will battle for the LVC title, which has been a goal of both programs all year.
"We feel we had a chance to beat them [Parkland] the first time we played them and we let it slip, " said Koch. "Parkland is the top-seed and we're the underdog. We're going to take that role very seriously and play hard."
For Bethlehem Catholic head coach Jeff Koch, he feels that his team is peaking at the right time.
"We know when we're passing well and playing good defense, we can beat anyone," Koch said. "We've advanced one step further this year in this tournament and hopefully we can take another step on Wednesday."
Tonight's championship bout tips off at 7pm back at Whitehall in a rematch of a regular season victory that Parkland pulled out over Becahi after losing the first two games during the regular season, only to pull out the win in five.
"They're very athletic and they have multiple guys that can hit the ball," said Parkland head coach Scott Trumbauer. "They keep you on your toes and you got to be ready for that. We weren't ready for that the first time we played them, but we made a big lineup change in that match that really turned things around. It's nice to know we have that in our back pocket heading into the final."
