Parents are reminded no classes will be held Friday, May 10.
Teachers and staff will be taking part in a professional development day.
Steckel open house: Steckel Elementary's open house is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday, May 9.
Many activities will be going on throughout the building. The PTO will have spirit items and hot dogs for sale. The book fair will also be part of the event.
Steckel book fair: Students at Steckel have the opportunity to purchase some great books at the PTO book fair this week. The fair began May 6 and ends today, Thursday, May 9, during evening hours at the open house.
Film festival tonight: The Whitehall High School Film Club will present its second annual film festival 6 p.m. tonight, Thursday, May 9, in the high school auditorium.
Students and members of the community are invited to attend and view numerous short films created by the members of the high school film club in several genres including romance, horror and comedy.
Refreshments will be for sale at the door. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.
Food drive at Gockley: The students and staff of Gockley Elementary are on a mission to help our community by collecting food for the pantry at St. Stephen's. The drive will run through May 17.
A friendly competition between kindergarten and first-grade classrooms is under way as well. Kindergartners are collecting breakfast items such as pancake batter, syrup, cereal, oatmeal, canned fruit, coffee, tea, juice bottles and snacks, and first graders are collecting lunch and dinner food such as peanut butter, jelly, tuna, canned chicken, soups, stew, canned veggies, juice, chips, pretzels and snacks.
The classroom that collects the most will be rewarded with an ice pop party. Winning classrooms will be announced May 23.
Whitehall Dorney Park nights: Whitehall students and their families can go to Dorney Park and pay a reduced rate after 5 p.m. Friday nights May 10, 17, 24 and 31 and June 7.
Each building has tickets available on request. The offer is good for up to two admissions on those dates only.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Whitehall Ski Boarding Club.
Steckel box tops: BoxTops for Education will be collected at Steckel until May 18.
The final tally of how many were collected will be announced in June. Continue collecting and cutting. Baggies of 50 are greatly appreciated.
Box tops, found on General Mills products, can continue to be sent any time before May 18.
MS footprints for sale: The middle school and Zephyr and Gockley elementary schools are collecting money for the upcoming Multiple Sclerosis Walk-a-thon at Coca-Cola Park.
MS footprints are on sale to support Team Holmes (a Whitehall-Coplay Middle School teacher) in the MS walk.
All the footprints will be displayed.
