STUDENT OF THE WEEK Connor Maake
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I am a senior at Emmaus High School.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: My favorite subject is history, because it captivates my interest and offers perspective on the state of the world.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: I am currently a member of National Honor Society and my Envirothon team received an award for achieving first place at the 2012 regional competition.
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I am a member of the Envirothon team, as well as the Science Olympiad team. Outside of the classroom, my two strongest interests are baking and watching WWE wrestling.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: I plan to attend Lafayette College in the fall, so my next immediate goal is to do well in my studies. After college, I hope to hike the Appalachian Trail.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: My biggest challenge has been overcoming my tendency to procrastinate, along with my inability to focus on tasks that don't pique my interest.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I want to be remembered as someone who lived without placing undue importance on the expectations and opinions of society.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: My family consists of my mother Barbara, my father Guy, my two brothers Ryan and Luke and my sister Tara.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: Nobody currently alive, but my biggest role model has always been Helen Keller. Her tenacity in the face of such great adversity has motivated me to remain dedicated and determined in everything I do. Seeing that a person can overcome such crippling obstacles has given me confidence in the idea I can achieve anything I set my mind to.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: Don't worry about the little things; grasp the bigger picture of life itself and enjoy the time that you have.
