East Stroudsburg University senior Brian Ernst has been named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Week after setting an ESU record with 15 strikeouts, the most by a PSAC pitcher this season, in a three-hit shutout at Millersville last Friday.
Ernst, a Salisbury High School graduate, struck out at least two batters in every inning, struck out the side in the third, and didn't allow a hit until a two-out double in the fourth inning in the Warriors' 2-0 win in the first game of Friday's doubleheader.
Ernst's 15 strikeouts are tied for the second-most in Division II this season. He was also 2-for-3 at the plate in the game and had a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner that scored in the seventh inning. He was 4-for-11 at the plate in the series, playing first base the other three games.
It was his fourth straight game with at least 10 strikeouts, going 3-0 with 48 strikeouts, seven walks, four runs and 14 hits allowed in 27.2 innings with three complete games.
He moved into fifth at ESU with 182 career strikeouts and is tied for sixth with 190 hits entering the PSAC Tournament. He is one of four players in PSAC history with 150-plus hits and strikeouts in a career.
He has 69 strikeouts (fourth-most in school history) in 46.2 innings for a strikeout rate of 13.3 per nine innings, which ranks in the top five in Division II.
For the year, he has a 4-2 record with a 2.70 ERA, 69 strikeouts, 24 walks, 31 hits allowed and a .187 opponents batting average in nine games, all starts.
