Local business owner does her part to make sure special CMS dance is held

Don't fret, Catasauqua Middle School students; the end of the year formal dance is still on, May 3 at 7 p.m. at the middle school.

Earlier in the year, the school announced the formal would not be held due to budget cuts. Catasauqua resident Brenda Disla, owner of My Girls Decor Event Specialists, feeling the school offering a formal to the students was necessary, came to the rescue.

"This is the way we let these kids celebrate their long years of being a young child and have over passed an important marker in their life and welcoming them to a much more important stage, which will be high school and college," said Disla, whose daughter attends CMS.

Although it will be held in the middle school gym, this year's formal is not sponsored by CMS or the school district. Disla will provide everything from ceiling drapery and a photo booth photographer to candy and decorations.

The formal this year will take on a Hollywood theme and will include a red carpet set out for the students.

Disla said she still is in need of beverages for the event. At the moment, the school district is only providing Pepsi.

"I just really want to give back to my community especially with the budget cuts the children are facing," she told The Press. The formal is not covered by the school but rather by parents.

Disla said she is grateful to Stephanie Shook, another parent who she said contacted her about providing her services for the event.

In addition to Disla's business, Deejay True Vision, MG Photography and MoJo Photobooths have extended their services to help ensure the special event is offered to the students.
