Lady Falcons fall to Palisades

The Salisbury softball team fell to Palisades Friday, losing 11-1 in 5 innings. The Falcons struggled to get the offense going early, and errors late sealed their fate.

"It was a tough loss," said Salisbury head coach Brian Covely. "We have four games left to play and hopefully we play better these next four games and end on a good note to go into next season."

The Falcons fell behind 3-0 after one inning, but fought back, scoring a run in the top half of the third on a triple by Thalya Cressman down the right field line, plating Aubrey Miller.

Salisbury pitcher Sarah Rogers settled down nicely after a rocky start. The senior pitcher hurled two straight scoreless innings, allowing just two hits in two innings.

The doors fell off in the bottom of the fourth. A leadoff single, followed by a one out walk, and back to back errors by junior right fielder Paige Ackerman led to a huge inning for the Pirates. Palisades batted around in the fourth, scoring six runs on five hits and two errors.

Palisades' pitcher Karlee Krchnavi was outstanding. Krchnavi held the Falcons to one run on just two hits in five innings.

Rogers allowed 11 runs on 11 hits, including two Palisades home runs.

The Falcons fell to 1-11 in league play, 3-13 overall. This season has been difficult for the Falcons, but the team's spirit is still high. Even when times are tough, the Falcons are a close-knit group, cheering each other on as loud as possible from the bench.

The future is bright for this team, with just two seniors in the starting lineup Friday, the Falcons will continue to learn and grow, and under the capable tutelage of head coach Brian Covely, the Falcons are set up to be very good in the coming years.

The Falcons have four games remaining, and look to finish the season out on a strong note.
