Brosky wins gold at ASD Invitational Meet
Hanna Brosky has made large strides, literally and figuratively, in just two years as a competitive high school runner.
The Emmaus junior seems to get faster with each meet she runs.
She began her mid-distance running career last spring with great success. She continued that success this season and plans for it to continue through the postseason.
Brosky ran a personal best time of 2:13.82 last Friday to win the 800-meter gold medal at the Allentown School District Invitational at J. Birney Crum Stadium.
"It's one of my favorite meets," Brosky said. "The weather was ideal. This is my favorite track. I realized if I was going to [run a personal best time], today was the day. I know I haven't peaked at all yet, so states is another ideal PR."
After winning last year's league and district titles in the 800, Brosky went to states and placed ninth. That was just her rookie season.
"My times have dropped," Brosky said. "I think it's all about experience. Sophomore year was my first year ever running track.
"Now I have previous 800s to base it off of. Times just drop when you get more experience."
Brosky also placed second in the 400-meter run at 59.1 seconds. She looks forward to a postseason where she can run more personal best times.
A few other Hornet athletes placed in the top four at the ASD Meet.
Emmaus' hurdler Maria Justus placed third in the 300 hurdles at 48.21. She also came close in the 100 hurdles, taking fourth place at 16.24.
The only other medal winners were the girls 1600-meter relay team, which placed second in 4:10.93.
A few individuals and relay teams placed fourth, one spot away from a medal.
Sophomore Eric Jones was fourth in the 800, running it in 2:00.76. Three Hornet relay teams also placed fourth. The girls 400 relay (50.85), the girls 3200 relay (9:47.8) and the boys 3200 relay (8:20.43) all took fourth place at ASD.
Emmaus saw a number of individuals place in the top 10 last Friday.
Sophomore Jaclyn Reinbold took eighth in the 800 at 2:27.08.
Junior Hanna Devyn ran to ninth place in the 100-meter dash at 13.02.
Juniors Chanel Bootham and Anne Wetherhold finished tied for ninth place in the 200 at 27.12.
Senior Linsday Bray was ninth in the 1600 meters at 5:25.61.
Senior Jessica Cole took ninth in pole vault by clearing 8-0.
Arielle Iacocca finished ninth in long jump with a leap of 16-7.
