Whitehall-Coplay School District news
Students and staff at both Zephyr and Steckel will be entertained by an all-time favorite musician-storyteller, Jonathan Sprout.
He is scheduled to bring on the fun and music to Zephyr Thursday, May 2, and then to Steckel Friday, May 3.
His All American Tales and tunes entertain and teach the students some of the history of our country and world.
Open house tonight: The annual middle school parents night is set for tonight, Thursday, April 25.
Set for 6:30-8:30 p.m., it will follow an open house format with parents moving through the building and visiting individual teachers as they become available.
The event provides a time for teachers and parents to meet before the end-of-the-school-year rush begins.
Numerous activities and student work will be on display throughout the building. The PTO will present a spirit sale, sell hot dogs and host the book fair.
Community interest groups and eighth-grade farewell dance volunteers will be present to sell tickets for the end of the year dance, set for June 1.
Steckel open house: It's almost time for Steckel Elementary's open house scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9.
Mark your calendars. Many activities will be going on throughout the building. The PTO will have spirit items and hot dogs for sale. The book fair will also be part of the event.
Steckel book fair: Students at Steckel will have the opportunity to purchase some great books at the upcoming PTO book fair scheduled for Monday-Thursday, May 6-9.
Evening hours will be included May 9 during the open house.
Students will be bringing home a flyer with more details.

Steckel Boxtops: BoxTops for Education will be collected at Steckel until May 18.
The final tally of how many were collected will be announced in June. Continue collecting and cutting. Baggies of 50 are greatly appreciated.
Box tops, found on General Mills products, can continue to be sent any time before May 18.
MS Footprints for Sale: The middle school along with Zephyr and Gockley elementary schools, are collecting for the upcoming Multiple Schlerosis Walk-a-thon at Coca-Cola Park in May.
MS footprints are on sale to support Team Holmes (a Whitehall-Coplay Middle School teacher) in the MS walk.
All the footprints will be displayed.
No school: Students will not have school Friday, May 10, so that teachers and staff can take part in a professional development day.
School board meeting: The next school board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, May 13, in the administration building on campus.
The public is invited.
