Catasauqua High School junior Kanyi Creppy not only acts on stage, but he also sings.
Recently, he participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association district and regional chorus competitions.
In order to earn a spot in the Regional Chorus performance in February, he had to audition last October for District Chorus. Out of 100 students who auditioned, he was one of only 13 selected in his voice part to sing in the Regional Chorus. Both competitions required students to sing a selection of music in front a panel of judges.
While he did not qualify to go on to the State Chorus performance, he said he was grateful for the opportunity to perform.
Creppy initially discovered his musical talent through a friend.
"I did a fall play my freshman year," he says. "My friend convinced me to do a musical."
Since his freshman experience, he said his love of music has blossomed.
He was in the cast of the 2012 musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" and he shaved his head to portray the King of Siam in this year's production of "The King and I."
"I enjoy singing," he says. "I feel like it's another way besides acting to be expressive."
While he has another year remaining at CHS, he already has his eyes set on the Big Apple. He plans to apply to Wagner College and Marymount Manhattan College, both in Manhattan, to pursue an acting and singing career.
Showcasing his artistic abilities, he has posted professional-looking videos of song performances on YouTube.
While he projects lots of character on stage, he is more reserved when the curtain closes.
"I just decided to do a few covers," he says.
