Tennis players all earn top-three at LVC Tourney

Emmaus crowned one champ and had all five of its entries finish in the top three at Monday's Lehigh Valley Conference tennis tournament.

The Hornets' No. 2 doubles team of Ryan Jaeger and Mike Hensler won their bracket in the flighted event, while two singles players and two other doubles teams took second place.

Ryan Hobson earned the silver medal at No. 2 singles after falling to Parkland's Roshan Joshi, 10-5 in the final.

"I felt like I was the stronger player going in," said Hobson. "Then I started making some unforced errors. Those games go quickly in a 10-game set."

Hobson, who was making his third appearance at the LVC Tournament, was the top seed in the No. 2 singles bracket and cruised through to the final.

After a first-round bye, Hobson beat Bethlehem Catholic's Steve Rossi, 8-1, then dispatched Easton's Colin Winders, 10-0 in the semifinal.

Emmaus' top player, Matt Fitzmaurice, took third place at the tournament.

Fitzmaurice was the No. 2 seed and beat Nazareth's Andrew Wahlgren, 8-3, before falling to Parkland's Nick Kshatri, 10-5. Fitzmaurice went on to beat Central Catholic's Dan Schoenborn, 10-4 in the final.

At No. 3 singles, RJ Dave earned the top seed and beat Easton's Evan Goldstein, 8-3, and Freedom's Ross Sonnenblick, 10-7 before falling to Parkland's Peter Harrison in the final.

The Hornet No. 2 doubles team of Jaeger and Hensler were also top seeds. They won their first match, 8-0 over Freedom's top pairing, then beat a Liberty doubles team, 10-3, in the semifinal.

Jaeger and Hensler won the title match, 10-5 over Parkland's Marcus Speigel and Mike Adams.

At No. 3 doubles, Emmaus' Gavin Daugherty and Kevin Fine too second place, falling to Parkland's Nate Lyman and Nishad Gothoskar, 10-4, in the finals. The Hornet duo was seeded second and won its first two matches 8-2 and 10-3, respectively.

Another Emmaus-Parkland match up marked the No. 4 doubles final as the Trojans' Donovan Snyder and Peter Sohn beat Kyle Jaeger and Sanket Narayana, 10-5.

The Emmaus pairing, which was seeded No. 1, won its first match 8-2 and it's second 10-6 to earn a spot in the No. 4 doubles final.
