Winfield Iobst has announced his intention to run for re-election of mayor of Emmaus.
He has been mayor of Emmaus for 16 years.
"I have served the Borough of Emmaus with integrity and if re-elected, I will continue to do the same."
Iobst worked for his dad in the dairy and bakery business. He said his father always taught him well and told him to "always be nice to the senior citizens– you will be one, one day."
"He told me to respect them and I do."
Iobst has lived in Emmaus in the same property for 69 years. His father was the mayor when he was in high school.
He retired from Mack Trucks in 2001.
He is an active member of St. Matthews, in Emmaus, and has been a member since 1966.
Iobst is a crossing guard at 2nd and Harrison and 3rd and Harrison streets, a job he has held for 30 years.
He has three sons and seven grandchildren.
"I am proud to represent the Borough of Emmaus at ribbon cuttings and weddings and I enjoy talking to the citizens. I help them wherever I can. I am a people person. I work well with department heads and Emmaus Borough Council.
"We have outstanding police, fire and ambulance departments. The chief of police and I work very well together because we respect each other.
The mayor is on call seven days a week.
His favorite part of being mayor is the people.
