Caroline will often call downstairs on school days, asking me to fix a sandwich for her. Normally this is her job, but she is often running late for the bus so I help her out. Last Friday, I was in the basement when she asked, but Benjamin heard and said he would take care of it. I came up from the basement to see him putting the finishing touches on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on cinnamon swirl bread.
Caroline and I both thought it was a strange combination but Benjamin was so pleased with himself we couldn't complain. He then went on to fix the rest of her lunch including cutting up an apple. At the end of the day she reported back that the sandwich was quite delicious and all her friends thought Ben was really sweet to fix her lunch.
The next township column will be published May 15; copy deadline is May 9.
