LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK Christopher Neely

Q: What grade are you in?

A: I am currently in 12th grade.

Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?

A: My favorite subject is AP physics because the subject matter is really thought provoking and requires a lot of problem-solving. It's probably the hardest class I'm taking, but our teacher makes the material very understandable and even fun at times.

Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A: This year I received a Gold Key from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for my art portfolio inspired by life in the suburbs. I also was selected as a Presidential Scholar at Villanova.

Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A: My extracurricular activities include debate team, PALS, varsity cross country, playing guitar and singing in my band, Sharing Stereo, playing bass in the jazz ensemble at Emmaus as well as in my jazz combo group, which is unofficially called Jazz Panda. I also have a couple of part-time jobs.

Q: What is your next goal after high school?

A: After high school I will be studying chemical engineering at Villanova University. After that, I plan to go to medical school, but my plans might change while in college.

Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A: My biggest challenge has probably been trying to juggle all my varied interests, because while I'm into academics, I'm also passionate about art and music, among other things.

Q: What do you want to be remembered for?

A: I want to be remembered for being hardworking, but also knowing how to have fun.

Q: Who is in your family?

A: My parents are Andrew and Karen Neely, and I have two sisters, Heather and Michelle. I also have an Irish setter named Kelly.

Q: Do you have someone you look up to?

A: I look up to my dad because he worked really hard to put himself through college, four years after high school, and ended up being successful. He motivates me to work hard because he is proof hard work pays off.

Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?

A: My advice would be to not procrastinate, although it is a bit hypocritical of me to say so.
