Whitehall Township is considering appointing a fire marshal.
"We are reviewing options," said Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. A fire marshal would be responsible for performing inspections of commercial structures in the township, including apartments, a practice currently undertaken by Keystone Inspections.
If a fire marshal is appointed, the township could also appoint a deputy fire marshal as well.
Several years ago, such responsibilities were assigned to the fire chief, but a change in state regulations required these duties to go to an outside firm. The fire chief would continue to serve the fire stations and personnel across the township.
