UPPER AND LOWER MILFORD COLUMN

The Emmaus and Upper Milford Environmental Advisory Council is presenting an interesting and informative series of programs called "South Mountain: Our Backyard: Past, Today and Tomorrow" 7 to 9 p.m. Scheduled presentations include April 16, in the Upper Milford Township building auditorium: "Today's Landscape: Uses and Values: From biking to hiking, from water to biodiversity," on May 21 in the Emmaus High School multimedia room (enter at flagpoles on Macungie Avenue near Pine Street, then follow signs: "Using and Protecting Our Mountain: Acting now, looking to the future" and June 18 in Upper Milford: "From the Mountain to our Backyards: Bringing nature to our yards and parks."

Take a break from cooking 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 8, and help the Upper Milford Western District Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. The Auxiliary is hosting a Family Fun Night at Friendly's Restaurant, 6894 Hamilton Blvd., Trexlertown. A percentage of all sales during that time period will be donated to the fire company. The Upper Milford Western District Fire Co. #1 Ladies Auxiliary meets at the firehouse 7 p.m. May 7. They are always looking for new members and new ideas.

St. Peter's Union Church is also holding a Family Fun Night at Friendly's 5 to 8 p.m. April 16; 10 percent of all proceeds at Friendly's will benefit St. Peter's.

There are several more great opportunities to eat out this month. Two are sponsored by Old Zionsville UCC, 5981 Fountain Road, Old Zionsville. On Saturday April 6, the church will have a family style all you can eat ham and dandelion dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., sponsored by the outlook committee. The dinner includes dandelion with hot bacon dressing, ham, potatoes, green beans, applesauce, rolls, tea, coffee and dessert. Children under six eat free.

On Saturday, April 20, Old Zionsville UCC will host an all you can eat breakfast, 7 to 11 a.m., and bake sale. There will be a cost for guests six and older. The public is welcome to attend. For information on both events, call 610-966-5115.

The Lower Milford Fire Company has three dinners scheduled this month. Thursday, April 11 is their pork and sauerkraut dinner. April 18, they're offering a chicken pot pie dinner and April 25 is their monthly spaghetti dinner.

All are scheduled 4:30 to 7 p.m. or until sold out. The fire company is located on Limeport Pike.

The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit raised $1,009 during the Souper Bowl of Caring Feb. 3. The donation will be divided equally between the 6th Street Shelter and the Emmaus High School Angel Network. Thanks to everyone at the church who helped out or contributed to this effort.

Upper Milford Township supervisors meet the first and third Thursday of every month unless otherwise announced. April meetings are April 4 and 18.

Vera Cruz senior citizens regular meetings will be held 1 p.m. April 4 and 18.

The Upper Milford Recreation Commission meets 7:30 p.m. April 17.

The Emmaus-Upper Milford Joint Advisory Council will meet in Emmaus April 22.

The Upper Milford Historical Society meets 7 p.m. April 25 in the Upper Milford municipal building. For information, call vice president Neil Moser at 610-966-4376.

Upper Milford Western District Fire Co. #1 holds its breakfast buffet April 7.

The Lower Milford Historical Society meets 7:30 p.m. April 17 at the Lower Milford Township building. For more information, visit their website, LowerMilfordHistory.org.

Following is the April meeting schedule for Lower Milford Township. All meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

The board of supervisors workshop will be April 4 and their regular meeting April 18.

The Historical Commission will meet Tuesday, April 9. The Planning Commission met Monday, April 1. Their meetings are always the first Monday of the month. The Recreation and Open Space Board will meet Wednesday, April 10.
