Drew Lewis, Board Chair for United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV) has announced that Susan Gilmore is resigning from her post as President and CEO, effective May 1.
David Lewis, Vice President of Resource Development, will serve as acting President.
Gilmore will stay in the Lehigh Valley with her new position as Executive Director of Community Engagement at FamilyWize, a national company partnered with more than 1,000 United Ways in the United States whose goal is to reduce the cost of prescription medicine for children, families and individuals.
Gilmore explained that after 25 years with United Way she knew it would be very difficult to leave the organization.
When she was presented with the opportunity at FamilyWize, it was an offer she couldn't refuse and it fit the next stage of her career perfectly.
"This position marries my two favorite things: a direct service to the community and to United Way. It couldn't have been more perfect," Gilmore said.
Gilmore spent eight years at United Way Worldwide headquarters and has a unique understanding of the power of building both national and local partnerships which is what her new position will focus on.
Gilmore was President and CEO at UWGLV for the last eight years and in that time has raised more $80 million during tough economic conditions.
