Any team that can boast a lot of talent and a vast number of returning players, will surely like their chances. The Parkland boys lacrosse team will have that luxury this season.

A year after advancing to the District 11 semifinals, the Trojans see depth and experience on both sides of the field in 2013.

"Our team is loaded with talent," said first year head coach Brad Schifko. "Many players are capable of making significant contributions at the varsity level. Defensively, this is one of the strongest units in years, and will be looked upon as the tone-setter for the 2013 season."

Parkland graduated a strong group of four seniors, including goalkeeper Andrew Chenworth and the heart of defense in front of him in Matt Laub. But Schifko feels that his defense will be the strength of his team. This unit starts with new goalie Jameal Hadeed, and includes Matt Smith, Blaise Fugazzotto and Alex Silvonek at close defense. Jon Warg, Travis Wingate and Erik DiGirolamo will also add to an already stout defense.

At midfield, Josh Pope, Austin Close and Alex DiPasquale will look to make strong contributions, offensively. While the versatility of midfielders Andrew DiPasquale, Stephen Chenworth, Dante Cavallucci, Ethan Howell, Preston Saylor and Nolan Ridgway will look to contribute on both ends of the field.

At attack, Parkland is led by Anthony Ganguzza, Brett Kudlak and Dylan Klusaritz. The Trojan attack also has added depth, as Jake Billera (midfield, as well), Michael Warg and Zach Getchius will also be in the mix.

Schifko feels that if there is one thing his team will have to work on at the beginning of the season, it is consistency.

"The program is on its third head coach in as many years," said Schifko. "This team, with only a handful of seniors, is full of talent, but light on experience. If we can take advantage of our athleticism and youth across the board, minimize mental mistakes, and play together as a team, 2013 could prove to be a very successful campaign."

Emmaus, Central Catholic, and Nazareth will be strong competition for the Trojans this year, as all four qualified for the district semifinals a year ago.
