STUDENT OF THE WEEK Shannon McConnell
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I am a senior at Emmaus High School.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: My favorite subject is psychology. I think it's really interesting to learn about how the mind works and how it contributes to the development of a person's personality and actions.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: I received an Academic Excellence Award my freshman year and have made honor roll each of my four years of high school. I am also a member of National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society.
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I am currently the vice president of Emmaus' tutor coordinating program. I am also a Hornet Ambassador and a member of the Spanish and Red Cross Clubs. Outside of school I participate in an organization called Young Life.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: After high school I plan on attending college to pursue a degree in psychology. My ultimate goal is to work in a rehabilitation center as a psychologist.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: My biggest challenge so far would probably be deciding on what college I will be attending. It is such a big decision that is going to impact the rest of my life, and I have found it to be really hard deciding where I will spend the next few years.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I want to be remembered as the girl who was always laughing and smiling. I hope when people look back they remember me as someone who was always able to brighten their day.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: My parents Jim and Debi McConnell.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: I can't say I have an individual person I look up to. I admire so many different qualities of many people in my life that it's hard to pick just one person.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: Never compromise who you are and what you believe in to gain the acceptance of others.
