The Northampton Area School District held it's 2013-14 kindergarten registration Tuesday, Feb. 12 and Wednesday, Feb. 13 at George Wolf, Lehigh, Siegfried and Moore elementary schools.
Parents or guardians were required to bring proof of birth and proof of residency, immunization records and custody papers relating to the child being enrolled.
District Superintendent Joseph Kovalchik said the enrollment took place earlier to project the number of students to be enrolled for the next school year. Such projections, he said, ties in with the number of teachers needed for next year.
"Our budget timeline has been advanced; we have to have it in earlier than prior years," he said.
Parents such as Tashi Smale said she doesn't mind the early registrations.
"Let's get it out of the way and get it done," she said.
David Strait and his 4-year-old son, Nathan, attended the registration at Siegfried Elementary.
"I think that the early enrollment is beneficial," said Strait.
