STUDENT OF THE WEEK Adam Kita
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I am in 12th grade.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: My favorite subject is AP government and politics. I enjoy learning about the interworking of our current governmental system. I believe that everything learned within this course is practical and applicable to everyday life. This is the type of course everyone should take at some point in his or her life because it provides an excellent basis of knowledge regarding our country and leads to more informed and educated political decisions.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: I recently received a nomination from Congressman Charlie Dent, R-15th, to attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. This past soccer season I received the Emmaus Soccer Green Hornet Award (doing the most to promote soccer throughout high school).
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I am currently the vice president of the Emmaus High School Student Government. I participate in the Peer Assisted Learning Support Club. I am the vice president of outdoor adventure club. I volunteer with the Student Conservation Association and I occasionally take photographs for the school newspaper, The Stinger. Athletically, I serve as co-captain for the Emmaus High School mens soccer team and I am the captain of my club soccer team, LMS Premier. I also play intramural baseball as well as Scrub league basketball.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: My ultimate goal in life is to become a commercial pilot and fly all over the world. I hope to accomplish this dream by either attending one of our military academies or participating in ROTC and first becoming a military pilot. After the military, I hope to move to Seattle at some point and see where else life takes me.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: My biggest challenge has definitely been keeping my life in a state of equilibrium. It can be all too easy to let sports, school, family or a social life dominate and consume all of my time. It has been my goal throughout high school to sufficiently balance all of those aspects of life. It hasn't been easy, but I have dealt with them adequately.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: When someone remembers me, I want my name to have a positive connotation. I want people to only relate good memories or thoughts to my name, and nothing negative. I hope I've made a good enough impression on my peers that they can remember me as kind and accepting of everyone.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: My parents, Tammy and Chris Kita and my sisters, Kenna and Maya and my cat, Kitty.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: I have always looked up to both of my parents. They are very different people and successful in different ways. I have always done my best to absorb and mimic the best traits within both of them. They are both well traveled and very knowledgeable about the world as a whole and I am happy that I have them as a consistent resource to look up to.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: The ends justify the means.
