serves as leader
Emily Parker, of Orefield, a speech-language pathology and audiology major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, was selected to serve as an orientation leader for the university's 2012 Welcome Weekend events.
IUP orientation leaders help to mentor more than 3,000 freshman students during their first weekend at IUP, helping to smooth the transition to college life.
Events during the university's Welcome Weekend include tours of university buildings and offices and freshman convocation, the university's formal welcome to new students.
She is a dean's list student and a student worker in the Office of the Provost.
Parker, a 2011 graduate of Parkland High School, is the daughter of Dawn and Scot Parker.

Joseph Brown of Schnecksville, was named to the dean's list for academic excellence for the fall 2012 term at Springfield College, Springfield, Mass.
Brown, a freelance writer for The Press, is studying communication and sports journalism.

Ashley Lorah of Allentown, is a member of the Academic Honors program at Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio.
Lorah is majoring in exercise science.
A 2011 graduate of Parkland High School, she is the daughter of Scott and Beth Lorah.
The honors program at Ashland University provides academically talented undergraduate students cross-disciplinary experiences, participation in an intellectual community devoted to discussion and dialogue, and special projects and courses that challenge the mind.

Trevor McCleary and Brandon Miller, both Parkland High School graduates, have enrolled at Rochester Institute of Technology .
McCleary, the son of Deborah and David McCleary of Orefield, will study industrial design.
Miller, the son of Christine Gieringer of Schnecksville and Brian Miller of Breinigsville, will study mechanical engineering and has also received a presidential scholarship from RIT.

Brightbill is studying creative writing.
