Seven D-I head coaches to speak at NIKE Clinic

For the first time ever, seven Division I head football coaches will be guest speakers at the NIKE Eastern Pennsylvania Coach of the Year Clinic.

Scheduled from Thursday, Feb. 28 through Saturday, March 2 at the Holiday Inn in Fogelsville, the clinic will include not only the Division I head coaches, but other college coaches and assistants, as well as prominent high school coaches.

Clemson's Dabo Sweeney, Missouri's Gary Pinkel, Miami's Al Golden, West Virginia's Dana Holgorsen, Minnesota's Jerry Kill, Wake Forest's Jim Grobe and Temple's new head coach Matt Ruhle are the headliners.

Sweeney will speak on Thursday night with his topic called "Clemson Football and the Development of the Complete Wide Receiver." Pinkel takes the podium on Friday morning and will be followed by Golden, who will speak on "Attacking Coverages with Play Action Game." Ruhle and Holgorsen will also speak Friday.

Saturday will close out the clinic with Kill and Grobe holding sessions.

Penn State quarterback coach Charlie Fisher will open up the clinic on Thursday with a talk on "Quarterback Fundamentals and Organizing and Executing Your Passing Game." He'll be followed by IUP National Assistant Coach of the Year Paul Tortorella on "Installing a flexible defense package and playing successful red zone defense."

Mike Yurcich of Shippensburg, with the No. 1 Division II offense in the nation, will speak on "Quarterback drill work and timing up QB progress and drops."

On Friday morning, Dan Hunt of Colgate, Lafayette defensive coordinator John Loose and Lehigh receiver coach Jason Miran kick things off.

Williams Valley's Tim Savage and Tamaqua's Sam Bonner will take over after the lunch break. Division III Coach of the Year Mike Drass of Wesley College will speak between Golden and Ruhle on "Defending the Zone Read and Secondary Play."

Coatesville's Matt Ortega, Pennsylvania Class AAA Coach of the Year, Mark Delperico (Delaware's Division I Coach of the Year) from Middletown, Delaware and Bill Collick (Delaware Coach of the Year) from Cape Henlopen High School will hold talks prior to the John C. Whitehead Coach of the Year Awards and Holgorsen's session.

Special sessions will also be held for middle school coaches and youth league coaches on all three days.

Pre-registration fees must be received by Feb. 20.
