Upper Macungie officer nabs Redner's suspect

Upper Macungie Township police report one of its officers saw a man wearing a dark-colored hoodie sweatshirt and a white bandana over his face run out of the Redner's Market, 7150 Hamlton Blvd., at 2:48 a.m. on Jan. 22.

The man, who was carrying a black backpack, ran north on the sidewalk passing other stores and turned around on the side of the building at Blockbuster Video.

The officer followed in his car and saw him head toward the sidewalk along Hamilton Boulevard.

The officer began to chase the man on foot and ordered him to stop.

He continued running west on Hamilton Boulevard and the officer saw there was a vehicle with its lights on parked to the rear of the Java Joint coffee shop. The man, who was headed toward the car, tripped over some branches and the officer took him into custody.

Shortly thereafter, Lehigh County radio advised it had received a call for an armed robbery at Redner's.
