WDIY benefit promises a 'Winter Blast'

WDIY, Lehigh Valley's community public radio station is holding its annual fundraising party, this year themed "Winter Blast," 7 - 11 p.m. Feb. 2, Rodale Community Room, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown.

"It's going to be a great party, as usual," said Bill Dautremont-Smith, Executive Director of the local NPR station. "There will be lots of food, complimentary beer and wine and, of course, music."

Entertainment is provided by the dance band, Lehigh Valley Soul Project, and Yancarlos Sanchez.

Attendees may bid on many items at a silent auction including a weekend trip to Jim Thorpe, framed work by photographer Theo Anderson, membership to Steel Fitness, tickets to the Iron Pigs and Sellersville Theatre, jewelry and more. Dan's Camera is providing a photo booth to create entertaining memories.

Proceeds benefit programming on WDIY.

WDIY, Lehigh Valley Community Public Radio, provides the Lehigh Valley with NPR news, locally-produced public affairs programs, and a diverse mix of music. The station is heard on 88.1 FM in the Lehigh Valley, with translators on 93.7 to the west, and 93.9 to the east, and at wdiy.org.

Tickets: wdiy.org, 610-694-8100, ext. 7

ArtsQuest Oscar party: ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, will host its first Oscar-night party, a fundraiser for the ArtsQuest Center's Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas, 6 p.m. Feb. 24.

Proceeds from the Oscar-night party will be used to help ArtsQuest complete the industry-mandated conversion from film to digital technology at its cinemas later this year.

"We already have digital projectors in place at the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas, but we do not have the required digital servers," says ArtsQuest Programming Manager for Cinema & Comedy Ryan Hill. "These servers are an absolute necessity and part of the new industry standard being implemented over the course of 2013."

The night's festivities are hosted by Hill and SmartsQuest Trivia host Steven Bost, who also host the cinemas' late-night program, "'Ryan and Steve Bust a Movie." They'll oversee a silent auction of framed cinema posters during the Red Carpet pre-show reception and give-away prizes, including Musikfest Café tickets, film passes and cinema posters during commercial breaks of the Oscar simulcast.

The evening begins with a Red Carpet pre-show dinner reception in the Blast Furnace Room before moving to the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas at 8 p.m. for an HD simulcast of the 85th Academy Awards.

Oscar-night party tickets include dinner and beer, wine and soda during the reception and popcorn during the simulcast. A cash bar will be available during the simulcast.

Tickets: artsquest.org, 610-332-3378.
