Horsham-based Bimbo Bakeries USA, which makes Arnold and Stroehmann breads, is building a new state-of-the-art bakery in Upper Macungie Township.
The company, which is planning a $75 million facility at 105 Boulder Drive, Breinigsville, will produce bread and buns for the Northeast.
More than 100 jobs are expected to come to the area when it begins operation in early 2014.
Construction of the 240,000-square-foot Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified plant (LEED) is expected to begin in a few months and be completed by the end of this.
According to Lehigh County Court records, the company purchased the 30 acres of land in October, 2012.
"This new facility will enable us to continue to serve our valued customers with the highest quality and freshest baked goods while leveraging significant advances in baking technology that will make our operations more efficient," David Margulies of Margulies Communications Group, said.
"Our new bakeries use less energy, are friendlier to the environment, allow more efficient production and help us maintain the highest quality standards.
"These innovations allow us to offer consumers the best value when they purchase our products."
Bimbo Bakeries USA began in 1994 when Grupo Bimbo, its parent company based in Santa Maria Insurgentes, Mexico City, purchased La Hacienda, a tortilla company in California.
Today, Bimbo Bakeries USA operates more than 70 bakeries in the United States.
