LEHIGH COUNTY CORONER

Lehigh County Coroner Scott M. Grim has identified the body of the woman found in a wooded area in Salisbury Township Dec. 27, 2012 as Jennifer Velez-Negron, 26, of Reading.

Her burning body was found in the vicinity of 75 Chestnut Hill Road in Salisbury Township.

An autopsy performed Dec. 28, 2012 showed her death was attributed to suffocation and thermal injuries and her death was ruled a homicide. At the time of the autopsy, DNA samples were collected for identification purposes.

Grim said additional testing was required to make positive identification as fingerprints and dental comparisons were not available.

"On Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, a detailed description of Jane Doe was released," Grim said. "With the assistance of the media and the public, we were placed in contact with possible family members of Jane Doe. Late that Friday evening, the Lehigh County Coroner's Office, Salisbury Township Police and the Homicide Task Force Detectives met with family members. At that time, DNA samples were collected from those members to assist with possible identification.

Velez-Negron was positively identified Jan. 10 through DNA testing.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone who may have information concerning Velez-Negron and her homicide is requested to contact the Salisbury Township Police Department at 610-797-1447 or the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force at 610-437-5252.
