Exchange Club honors Dec. girl and boy of the month

AnnaLia Giancaterino and Joshua Ryan were named the December Boy and Girl of the Month by the Northampton Exchange Club.

At a recent dinner, Dr. Rodger Berg, chairman for the Northampton Exchange Club Service to Youth program, said Giancaterino and Ryan have exhibited talent both in and out of the classroom. They also possess dedication, commitment, motivation and purpose in life.

Lauding the pair of Northampton Area High School seniors for their many achievements, Berg said talent is not enough to succeed.

"What else happened?" he asked. Motivation and a commitment to achieve and accomplish also play an important role in their lives.

"They had to make a commitment to develop their talents," Berg said.

Self discipline and self control are among the factors contributing to their success, along with time management, according to Berg.

Commending the parents for their role in raising the honorees, Berg said much more success lies ahead for them.

The two students were presented with Lamp of Knowledge trophies, framed certificates and club pens.

Giancaterino is a member of the National Honor Society, captain of the varsity soccer team and yearbook editor. She is a member of Caring Kids, PEACE Club, Odyssey of the Mind, and serves as a peer helper. She is a soccer scholar athlete, soccer coach and plays club soccer. She also participates in dance.

Ryan is a member of the National Honor Society, Chess Club, German Club and Outdoor Club, and serves as treasurer for the student council. He participates in Kids for Christ, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), serves as a Northampton Helping Hand volunteer and plays basketball outside of school.
