Did you know Indian Creek Cottage at the top of Sell Road in Powder Valley was a well-known summer boardinghouse in the early 1900s? Vacationers came from Philadelphia by train to the Zionsville Railroad Station, where they were picked up by horse and buggy.

It's 2013. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday.

We're in a post-holiday lull, but there are a few activities on the calendar.

If you didn't get enough pork and sauerkraut New Year's Day (and some of us never get enough), Lower Milford Fire Company, 1601 Limeport Pike, is having a pork and sauerkraut supper 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10 or until sold out. Eat it there or take out.

The fire company's spaghetti supper will be held Thursday, Jan. 31, same time. Salad bar and dessert are included.

Every football fan knows the Super Bowl will be held the first Sunday in February, Feb. 3. But that is also Souper Sunday for many area churches, who will have a special effort to contribute toward helping those less fortunate, the Souper Bowl of Caring. St. Peter's Union Church, for example, will ask those attending church that day to drop $1 (or more) into the soup pot as they leave worship. The Upper Milford Youth Association meets the third Tuesday of each month (except July and December), at 7:30 p.m.

The Upper Milford Township supervisors will hold their reorganization meeting 7 p.m. Jan. 2. The second meeting of the month will be held Jan. 17.

The Upper Milford Western District Fire Co. #1 Ladies Auxiliary meets at the firehouse 7 p.m. Feb. 5. They are always looking for new members and new ideas.

The Vera Cruz senior citizens regular meetings are 1 p.m. Jan. 3 and 17.

The Upper Milford Recreation Commission meets 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16.

The Emmaus-Upper Milford Joint Advisory Council will meet in Upper Milford 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28.

The Upper Milford Historical Society meets 7 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Upper Milford municipal building. For information, call vice president Neil Moser at 610-966-4376.

Upper Milford Western District Fire Co. #1 holds its breakfast buffet Jan. 5. The February breakfast will be Feb. 3.

The Lower Milford Historical Society meets 8 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Lower Milford Township building for the society's annual meeting. The board will meet 7:30 p.m.

Following is the January meeting schedule for Lower Milford Township. All meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. The board of supervisors will hold their organization and regular meeting Jan. 7. There is no January workshop meeting.

The Planning Commission will hold its regular meeting Jan. 14. There are no workshop meetings until further notice.

There will be a Zoning Hearing Board meeting 7 p.m. Jan. 23.

The Recreation and Open Space Board meets Jan. 9 and the Historical Commission meets Jan. 8.

On Saturday, Jan. 19, Old Zionsville UCC Church, 5981 Fountain Road, Old Zionsville, will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet 7 to 11 a.m. There will be a cost for guests six and over. There will also be a bake sale. The public is welcome. For information, call 610-966-5115.
