STUDENT OF THE WEEK Derek Tannous
Q. What grade are you in?
A. I am in 12th grade.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject is physics because it applies concepts learned in math to real-life situations. I think it is very interesting to learn how things work and why they do what they do.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I was chosen as the student of the month in the social studies department, inducted into the Spanish Honor Society and have achieved honor roll every quarter.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A. I am a Hornet Ambassador, a member of National Honor Society, the Key Club, the varsity basketball team and my church youth group.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. I am currently planning to attend college to earn a masters degree in speech and language pathology.
Q. What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A. My biggest challenge has been balancing academics, sports and extracurricular activities while maintaining a social life.
Q. What do you want to be remembered for?
A. I want to be remembered for enjoying life and encouraging all the people around me.
Q. Who is in your family?
A. My family includes my father Pat, mother Robin, older brother Nateand younger sister Leah.
Q. Do you have someone you look up to?
A. I look up to my older brother Nate. His character, work ethic and attitude are things I strive to have in every part of life. He has always been a great example for me.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. My advice comes from John Wooden, "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."
