LOWER MACUNGIE COLUMN Lower Macungie Library closed Dec. 24, 25
Throughout the month of December Lower Macungie Library will feature the works of Mary Ellen Stoyanov. She enjoys painting nature and is displaying her watercolors of trees.
The library will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 in observance of Christmas. The library will close 2 p.m. Dec. 31 and will be closed Jan. 1, 2013.
An eReader workshop will be offered 6 p.m. Jan. 15, 2013 in Room B of the community center. Learn how to download titles from the library's digital collection. Bring your eReader and library card. A selection of eReaders will also be available to try. Space is limited.
The library book club will meet 10:30 a.m. Jan. 9, 2013 to discuss "Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway.
Adult computer classes including Microsoft Word and Intro to the Web are offered monthly. The schedule is available at the library.
Drop-by storytimes for ages two to six years will be held 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Dec. 19.
There will be a bedtime booktime 7:30 p.m. Jan. 7, 2013 for children ages two to six years. Come in pajamas and bring your teddy bear!
Class size is limited and sign-up is required for the above events.

Christmas trees will be collected the weeks of Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, 2013 on regular trash collection day. Residents are asked to remove all decorations and not bind the trees with rope or string.
Concordia Lutheran Preschool will have a spaghetti dinner Feb. 2, 2013. The preschool and church are located on Brookside Road. Call the preschool at 610-965-3265 for reservations.
Lower Macungie Township will hold a Miller-Keystone Blood Drive 4 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12, 2013 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. To schedule an appointment time, call 610-966-6924.
Township residents are reminded that, as a result of Pennsylvania's new electronics recycling law, disposal of televisions and computer equipment is banned at landfills. Waste Management will no longer pick up and dispose of these items. Computer equipment includes laptops, monitors, CPU's, printers, scanners, keyboards, mouses, speakers, cables and battery backups. The Friends of the Library meet 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22, 2013 at the Lower Macungie Community Center.
The Lower Macungie Township Community Center offers a number of activities including Walkercise, yoga, pilates, parenting workshops, early childhood music programs and cooking classes. Upcoming classes include ballroom dance classes, children's cooking and art classes and Bricks4Kidz Lego classes. A painting class for grades one through five will be offered 2:30 p.m. Jan. 16, 2013. An SAT/ACT practice will be offered 9 a.m. Jan. 26, 2013. The deadline for registration is Jan. 18, 2013. A Safe Sitter Program will be offered 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 2, 2013.

The township is also offering discounted ski tickets for Bear Creek, Big Boulder/Jack Frost and Blue Mountain. Order forms are available at the community center.
The township is now offering discounted movie tickets for Regal Entertainment.
Family Open Gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.
Yard waste site hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and Sunday. They are closed on Tuesday and Thursday. Be prepared to show your photo ID as proof of residency. For more information, call Public Works at 610-966-4343.
One evening Benjamin announced to Matt, "Do you know what the best thing about toilet paper is?"
Matt, somewhat taken aback, said, "No, what?"
Ben replied, "When you're all done, you've got this cardboard tube left. Then you can put two together and make binoculars or put two end to end and make a telescope."
