The Lehigh County Senior Center has been awarded a grant of $5,000 from the ACBL Charity Foundation.
The American Contract Bridge League is a national organization that supports duplicate bridge games and tournaments throughout the world.
The Lehigh Valley Bridge Association (Unit 133) applied for the grant from funds collected by ACBL for local charities and distributed by District 4. The Senior Center was selected to receive the ACBL District 4 donation due to its tremendous programs for local seniors over age 55 and its sponsorship and support of duplicate bridge games for the Lehigh Valley Bridge Association.
The Lehigh County Senior Center is a private, nonprofit, charitable organization, whose mission is to contribute to an improved quality of life for people 55 and over by providing affordable educational, social, creative, physical and recreational activities. It is a member agency of the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
The Center is funded, in part, through a contract with the County of Lehigh Aging and Adult Services with funds received from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging. The Center relies on significant charitable donations for its programs. Funding also is provided by the City of Allentown and other local municipalities.
The Center has about 3,500 members. Over 75 percent of funding goes directly to programs and services.
The ACBL grant to the Senior Center will go entirely to programs and services that it offers to its members.
