To the Editor:
Congratulations to the 130-pound Catty football team for winning the Colonial League championship.
What an accomplishment for a first-year head coach and his team of great assistants.
This is a team that did not even have enough kids to field a team last year and had fewer than 15 players this year.
The 130-pound team lost only one game all season, to Bangor (9-1).
They won the rest of their games, many by the mercy rule.
This team was quite exciting to watch, with 30 plus offensive plays and many defensive schemes.
They were a mini version of the great high school team.
The team made it to the last playoff game against the undefeated Bangor team.
The game was played in Northern Lehigh's beautiful turf stadium. What a game!
Catty won the game 12-7, going right to the final play of the game.
On the fourth down, Catty's defense stopped Bangor about a foot short of a first down.
With 20 seconds left on the clock, Catty took a knee to win the game.
The referees did an excellent job and both teams displayed great sportsmanship.
Special recognition goes out to all those who supported this team, especially the parents, the high school officials, the high school coaches and even the starting quarterback from the high school team who volunteered his time to mentor these kids.
In conclusion, no names were mentioned because we all know their names in our small town, big-hearted community.
