My husband recently took Benjamin to Joe's Workshop at the DaVinci Science Center. The project of the morning was to make a Thing-a-ma-Tuba: a series of different length plastic pipes joined together by elbows with a funnel on the end. They were having some trouble assembling it. Benjamin, with the sage wisdom of a six-year-old, said, "Well, you know the old saying: Sometimes it just doesn't work."

Happy birthday to our Thanksgiving girl, Caroline! You're 100 percent awesome.

The next township column will be published Dec. 19; copy deadline is Dec. 13.
